One of South Africa's most ethical wildlife rehabilitation centres. Where every animal's journey matters.

Our Mission

Every wild animal deserves a life of freedom

Wildlife Paws SOS is a dedicated rescue, rehabilitation, and release centre based in the heart of Dullstroom, Mpumalanga. We are committed to being one of the most ethical wildlife centres in South Africa, where the animals always come first.

For the animals that cannot return to the wild, we provide a permanent, dignified home. We educate the public on why wild animals should never be kept as pets, and in collaboration with Dullstroom Bird of Prey, we offer an incredible diversity of species, from raptors and mammals to our beloved Vervet Monkeys.

About Us

Ethical Wildlife Rehabilitation in the Heart of Mpumalanga

Born from a gap that needed filling

The team at Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre had years of experience with raptors, but they kept seeing mammals come through that needed just as much help and there weren't enough places equipped to give it. So they partnered with seasoned mammal rehabilitators, and Wildlife Paws SOS was born.

The idea was simple: build a facility where rescue, rehabilitation, education, and conservation all happen under one roof. Today, we are one of the most complete wildlife rehab centres in Mpumalanga Province with proper veterinary care, specialist rehab knowledge, and a deep commitment to getting animals back where they belong.

PRIMARY SPECIALISATION

Specialists in Vervet Monkeys & Small Mammals

We've become particularly known for our work with vervet monkeys as they are one of South Africa's most misunderstood species. Frequently orphaned, often mistreated, and rarely given the long-term care they actually need. Rehabilitating a vervet isn't just about bottle-feeding a baby. It takes years of behavioural work, careful troop integration, minimal human imprinting, and properly managed release programmes. Our team understands that process deeply.

Beyond vervets, we take in a wide range of indigenous mammals:

  • Bushbabies
  • Genets
  • Mongooses
  • Meerkats
  • Duikers
  • Jackals
  • Servals
  • Hedgehogs
  • Squirrels
  • Hares

And many more species requiring specialised attention

Combined with the raptor rehabilitation work happening alongside us, we now offer one of the broadest wildlife rehab services you'll find in the province.

OUR COMMITMENT

Ethical Rehabilitation You Can Trust

We hold valid Wildlife Rehabilitation and Environmental Education Permits through the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency. That's not just paperwork; it reflects how we operate. Every rescue, every treatment plan, every release follows strict ethical protocols that put the animal's welfare first.

Our goal is conservation, not captivity. If an animal can go back to the wild, we do everything in our power to make that happen.

What drives us

  • Ethical rescue practices
  • Professional, science-based rehabilitation
  • Carefully planned release programmes
  • Conservation of indigenous species
  • Environmental education
  • Genuine community involvement
  • Long-term biodiversity protection

COMMUNITY & EDUCATION

More Than Wildlife Rescue

We've always believed that conservation starts with people. If communities don't understand why wildlife matters, the cycle of conflict and harm just continues. That's why we run education programmes for schools, community groups, and visitors, helping people connect with South Africa's biodiversity and understand their role in protecting it.

When you teach a child why that mongoose in their garden matters, you're shaping how they'll interact with wildlife for the rest of their life. Every animal we rescue becomes part of that conversation.
