Thatch Vacspray is a pest control and hygiene company based in Nelspruit. We specialize in pest control, hygiene cleaning and fire protection of thatch roofs. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to explain our service offering, a service that we truly believe will be beneficial to your establishment, not only in housekeeping but also will go a long way with ensuring the satisfaction and safety of your guests.

The service that we offer is very unique in the industry and we find ourselves in a very much of a niche market, With over 30 years in the thatching industry we have noticed over the years that there is a prevalent need for the maintenance, cleaning and fire protection of your thatch. This need is required not only with a new roof but even more so with a thatch roof that has aged over time.

Pest Control

As thatch grass is a natural material it is subject to the natural environments and this includes the pests that seek refuge in the cool temperatures of a thatch roof. Due to the nature of a thatch roof it will attract thatch lice, fleas, mosquitoes, flies, moths, beetles and mites, furthermore, these insects are at the bottom of the food chain and they will most certainly also attract spiders, geckos, scorpions, centipede, rodents, bats, birds and snakes.

The chemical that we use to eradicate these pests is specific to grass borne insects and insect infestation. The chemical is of food grade which is therefore safe to humans and animals alike.

Maintenance & Cleaning

The process that we follow is very thorough in that it removes all insect nests, cobwebs, mould and dust. Dependant on the job at hand, we make use of industrial vacuum or blower to remove all loose particles and impediments. The vacuum machine is very effective in removing dirt up to 2 inches deep in the thatch ceiling.

Once all this has been removed we spray the chemical into the ceiling ensuring that it soaks into the grass. Then a period of time is allowed for the chemical to dry and we then finish off with a sanitizing spray on the grass which will not only leave your roof safe from insects but smelling clean and fresh.

The process is quick and efficient and once the pest control and sanitation is completed, the room is safe to enter immediately, thereby ensuring that your room is available for guests.

We advise that this procedure be carried out once every 12 months to stay ahead of infestations and ensuring permanent hygienically cleaned thatch ceilings. Pest control is guaranteed for 12 months. Should infestation return within a 12 month cycle, we will return and service at no extra charge.

Fire Retardant

The FIRE PROTECTION is applied following the same process, however we concentrate on applying the fire retardant to the exterior and the internal thatch surfaces. The chemical that we use is specifically designed for thatch roof application.

In the case of lightening striking the surface or a fire source coming into contact with the grass, the grass will not catch fire and spread, it will however smoulder at the point of contact and distinguish itself. The result of fire damage to thatch roofs comes from a number of sources; Veld fire, Lightening, electrical fault and negligence. Once the fire retardant is applied it is guaranteed for 5 years.
