Experts in hearing and speech therapy. Lemmer Laurette Audiology is dedicated to opening worlds for people with hearing loss. Our work is shaped around the latest research and hearing technology to best support the needs of children and adults impacted by hearing loss and empower individuals to live life connected with their communities.

Together with families and health professionals, our specialised speech therapy teaches children to listen and speak so they can reach milestones at the same rate as their peers.

HEARING TESTS AND ASSESSMENTS

What is a hearing test?

  • A hearing test takes place in a soundproof booth or room:
  • You will listen to a range of sounds through headphones
  • You will react by pressing a button when you hear the sound
  • You may also listen to words or sentences to measure how clear they are for you
  • This will show the audiologist the level and type of hearing loss you have in each ear

How can a hearing test help you?

  • A hearing test will give you information about what options may be suitable to help with your hearing.

HEARING LOSS MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION

What is hearing loss management and rehabilitation?

  • Hearing loss management and rehabilitation aims to help you with your hearing loss to better accept and manage your hearing, especially in noisy or challenging environments.
  • It helps your family, friends and co-workers to better understand your hearing loss and its impacts.

How can hearing loss management and rehabilitation help you?

  • It helps you, your family and your friends to better understand and manage your hearing loss
  • It gives you tools and increased confidence to better manage difficult communication situations
  • It can help you to better use your hearing aids to maximise their effectiveness
  • It helps you have a better quality of life

HEARING AIDS

Types of hearing aids

In the ear canal (ITE/ITC)

  • ITE/ITC options are custom made to fit inside each individual ear canal
  • They sit in the entrance of the ear and are barely visible from the outside
  • No part of the device is outside of your ear

Benefits of this style:

  • Comfortable because this style is custom fit to your ear
  • Very discrete
  • Excellent sound quality

  • A close-up of a tiny in-the-ear hearing aid. These types of devices are also called invisible hearing aids. Expression Audiology can work with you to find the best device for you.

Behind the ear (BTE)

  • BTE hearing aids are worn with the receiver on top of, and behind the ear.
  • A sound tube connects the receiver to your ear canal with custom made ear moulds or standard earpieces
  • They are suitable for a range of hearing losses from mild to severe/profound.
  • These devices are robust

Benefits of this style:

  • Easy to manage
  • Suitable for all levels of hearing loss (mild to severe/profound)
  • Moisture resistant
  • A behind-the-ear hearing aid. If you need help finding the right device for you, contact Expression Audiology.

Receiver in Canal (RITE/RIC)

  • RITE/RIC hearing aids, also known as open fit hearing aids, are our most popular hearing aid style
  • They sit behind the ear with a thin wire that extends down the front of the ear and into the ear canal
  • They are similar to BTE devices, but the receiver is inside your ear instead of behind it
  • This style of hearing aid provides the most natural sound quality

Benefits of this style:

  • Lightweight and more discrete than BTE devices
  • No ‘blocked’ feeling as natural sound can enter the ear canal
  • More powerful options available being more suitable for a range of hearing losses
