An Early Childhood Development Practitioner plans and prepares early childhood activities, facilitates and mediates learning, observes and assesses the progress of children, and reflects on learning in an inclusive, play-based environment to support holistic development of children (from conception - school going) indifferent centre-based or non-centre-based settings.

What does an EDC Practitioner do?

  • Plan and prepare broad-phase learning environment and stimulating activities that meet the holistic needs of all children in centre-based or non-centre-based settings.
  • Facilitate and mediate all aspects of the daily programme in a centre-based or non-centre based setting.
  • Observe, assess and record each child's progress according to the age and stage.
  • Compile a report of each child's progress.
  • Maintain and promote the well-being, health, nutrition, safety and protection of children.

What are the entry requirements?

  • National Gr11 school report
  • Any NQF Level 3 qualification

How the training programme is completed and what is the duration?

  • The duration is 12 months.
  • The qualification is divided into three parts. Knowledge, Practical and Workplace Modules.

What does the distance learning/on-line Training Programme entails?

  • Learners will be required to complete their knowledge, practical and place modules and submit it online.
  • Support is available to learner via Zoom, email, phone or setting up an appointment to meet with one of our facilitators for guidance.
  • The learners will be expected to complete their work in their own time and submit on the due date.

Does one need to write exams?

  • Yes there is a Final Summative assessment done at the end of the learning programme. This will be a two day theory and practical exam and will take place at our training centre.
